ARC-NL has worked alongside Memorial University professors, Drs. Sobia Shaikh and Jennifer Selby, as the External Partners of an ongoing community engagement project, called, “Addressing Islamophobia in NL” (partially funded by Memorial’s Office of Pubic Engagement from 2017-2020). Addressing Islamophobia in NL was a direct response to increasing anti-Muslim extremism we witnessed and experienced across Canada and globally. This now four-year collaborative, community-engaged project’s main objectives were to improve localized knowledge and develop strategies to respond to Islamophobia, anti-Muslim racism and other social relations of racism in the province.
